This is a pair of original Bowers & Wilkins B&W luxury P7/9 headphone driver, 40mm diameter and made in the US. It’s the best 40mm driver we can offer so far, and we highly recommend to update any <$200 headphones for immediate sound quality improvements. We’ve tested with many headphone shells in different sizes and from 100% open to closed cups, this driver performs perfectly.

Note: the dynamic drivers have been paired to ensure sound and quality fully balanced between right and left channels. Therefore we don’t offer single unit.

Proceed with caution: dynamic driver is with extremely fragile (1~5μm) diaphragm and can be easily damaged in following situations.
- Soldering: overheated (>250 degree C) soldering iron or overtime soldering (>2s) may permanently damage the driver. Please managed down both in your DIY.
- Installation: the driver has Sintered NdFeB Magnetic inside with extremely strong attraction power. Damage may caused by attracting anything hitting the fragile diaphragm.
- Others: applying high-voltage, storing in high temperature/humidity environment… all may cause unrecoverable damage.

Hi,
My goal is is to have a compact headphone, with a 40 mm drivers, without spending a lot of money. You can buy a used headphone at any thrift shop, the fun part is like a treasures hunt.
I installed them into a SkullCandy shell, model is “lowrider”. The worst part is removing the original drivers from the shell without breaking the shell itself. With a little bit of soldering skill …. et voila I got a light weight headphone.
I have it “burn-in” for 72 hours intermittently, I use my ipad gen 7(classic),gen5, gen 4, connect to Fiio E17K ALPEN 2 . I change the volume up and down when ever I can. Is it necessary to do the burn-in, well …Yes! For me it sounds “better”, but it all comes down to your liking.
Sound: I am not a pro, but I am trying to describe what I hear from these drivers. It gives deeper tight bass, I can feel the thumb thumb sound not just hearing them, not muddy, it does not muffle other “notes’. Clear male voice and female voice not harsh. I do not feel tired listen to my music for one hour, I do not have time to listen beyond 1 hour. I also test it using same players through my Vintage NAD preamp Adcom GTP-500II Now, I stop using my Sony MDR 7506, but I still like the sound from this Sony MDR 7506, but my ears got warm after a while using it though.
I listen from classic to rock music. I have Sennheiser HD414, AIAIAI Track-Pipe-TM2 with S04 drivers, Koss Porta Pro, Koss KSC75, Mee M6, Mee M6 pro second Gen, Sony MDR 7506, but I put the AIAIAI TM2 in the side because the sound is not what I prefer. I like bass , bass is fun for me.

Due to burnt driver in my Audio-tehnica ATH-ANC700BT decided to swap with custom drivers, now soldered them in , for now disabled ANC second mic due to return loop, will figure out this later 🙂 but audio quality is very good.

Sounds really great. Many details and just enough bass. I’ve put the drivers in an old 80’s Akai headphone of which the original drivers were damaged. So retaining the vintage look but enjoying perfect new sound. I believe my DIY headphones will defeat any <€300 headphones easily!
