Description
Features and specifications
This is a pair of 7.8mm Titanium diaphragm drivers with ultra low THD – 0.03% at kHz and outstanding performance at mid band – the best driver unit for male vocals! and works best with our Sennheiser IE800 ceramic shells.
Package
1 Pair (2 pieces) 7.8mm Ultra Low THD Titanium Drivers
2 pieces of front cover spacer (for air sealing in installation)
Measurements
Measurement is done by an IEC711 coupler, a customized USB sound card and Win10 PC running ARTA software.
Open Space measurement – meaning the install the driver only to the front cover, and leave the back end open to free space.
Measurement setupFrequency response (open space)
Impulse response (open space)
Cumulative Spectral Decay (open space)
Burst Decay (open space)
Close space measurement with IE800 shell– meaning the install the driver is fully installed in to Sennheiser IE800 shell .
Frequency response (close space) – notice there is a 4dB drop on sub-bass, others are not impacted.

Cumulative Spectral Decay (close space)
Burst Decay (close space)
Frequency response after fine tuning
You may notice there is a 5dB burst on 4-6kHz in the original frequency response. To high gain on the mid normally not a big problem for vocal (some earphones branding themselves on “sweet female vocal” actually gain from this burst), but may make the overall character too bright. By applying damping materials in the front canal, it’s easy to suppress the burst and boost bass a little bit. See following curve – Red is the original FR and Blue is after applying damping – you can see the blue cure has +2dB gain on bass and low-mid, and the 5kHz burst is well suppressed.
Proceed with caution: dynamic driver is with extremely fragile (1~5μm) diaphragm and can be easily damaged in following situations.
- Soldering: overheated (>250 degree C) soldering iron or overtime soldering (>2s) may permanently damage the driver. Please managed down both in your DIY.
- Installation: the driver has Sintered NdFeB Magnetic inside with extremely strong attraction power. Damage may caused by attracting anything hitting the fragile diaphragm.
- Others: applying high-voltage, storing in high temperature/humidity environment… all may cause unrecoverable damage.
